Types of Resources

  • Books: Main Stacks books are located on the 2nd & 3rd floors of Cudahy and the 8th & 9th floors of Lewis.
  • Reference Books: Reference books are a great way to start your research and can be found on the main floor of Cudahy & Lewis Libraries.
  • Articles: Articles can be found in scholarly journals, popular magazines, and newspapers in print, online, and microfilm formats.
  • Audiovisual Materials: A/V materials include DVDs, CDs and slides. Look at this page for information on checking out these items.
  • Archives: The University Archives include rare books and materials documenting the university's history. They are located on the 2nd floor of Cudahy.

Online Catalog: Use the Catalog to locate materials such as books, journals, and course reserves held by any of the Loyola University Libraries. 


Subject Guides: Find information about doing research on a particular subject by choosing the subject area that matches your research topic.  These guides will help you identify article databases and other online resources that will allow you to search for journal articles.


Databases by Title: If you already know the name of the database you need, you can find it in this alphabetical list.


Request Forms: A lot of library services can be requested online from this page.  Follow the links to make an ILL request, place a hold on a book, schedule reference help by appointment, or request several other types of library services.

Reference & Circulation Desks

Reference Desk - 2nd Floor IC

  • The place to go when you have any type of research question. The librarian here can help you find and locate books, articles, databases and other types of resources for your papers. Research assistance is on the 2nd floor of the Information Commons on the north side of the service desk and on the main floor of Lewis Library. Information about how to ask a question via e-mail, chat, or in-person appointment with a subject specialist is available at http://libraries.luc.edu/services/reference.shtml

Circulation Desk - 1st Floor Cudahy

  • This desk is the place to go to check out books, pick up materials on hold, request materials from other Loyola libraries, pick up Interlibrarian Loan materials, or check out course reserve materials.  The circulation desk is located on the west side of the first floor in Cudahy Library.
