As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS has been a valued and respected resource on Capitol Hill for more than a century.
- NCJRS Topics List of topics covered in criminal justice with recent publications and links to relivent government departments under each topic. NCJRS is the National Criminal Justice Reference Service from the US Department of Justice.
- Opposing Viewpoints This link opens in a new window Comprehensive information on social issues with different perspectives.

Agencies and Organizations
- Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) The CIA is a U.S. government agency that provides objective intelligence on foreign countries and global issues to the president, the National Security Council, and other policymakers to help them make national security decisions.
- Chicago Police Department The Chicago Police Department is the law enforcement agency of the U.S. city of Chicago, Illinois, under the jurisdiction of the City Council. It is the second-largest municipal police department in the United States, behind the New York City Police Department. It has approximately 12,000 officers and over 1,925 other employees. Tracing its roots back to the year of 1835, the Chicago Police Department is one of the oldest modern police forces in the world.
- Cook County Sheriff The Cook County Sheriff's Office is the principal law enforcement agency that serves Cook County, Illinois. It is the second largest sheriff's department in the United States, with over 6,900 members when at full operational strength.
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the domestic intelligence and security service of the United States and its principal federal law enforcement agency. Operating under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Justice, the FBI is also a member of the U.S. Intelligence Community and reports to both the Attorney General and the Director of National Intelligence. A leading U.S. counter-terrorism, counterintelligence, and criminal investigative organization, the FBI has jurisdiction over violations of more than 200 categories of federal crimes.
- Illinois Department of Corrections The Parole Division serves to address public safety and the reentry process. The division has initiated numerous programs and processes to reduce recidivism, address parolee risk to the community and provide numerous reentry services for ex-offenders. Parole provides a series of resources and graduated sanctions in a community based setting to reduce recidivism.
- International Association of Women Police The IAWP served as a clearing house for information, adopted a code of ethics, and was a prelude to professional status, vital to policewomen. Higgins was president for eight years and Executive Director for twelve, during her tenure vigorously addressing issues of career opportunities, recognition for female officers within law enforcement, promotion and diversified assignments within departments. In speeches, Higgins called the feminine arm of the law the one that "rocks the cradle, and sometimes shoots a wicked .38." The IAWP reported 320 members, 295 from the U.S., three from Canada, and twenty-two from all other countries.* The organization has now grown to include members from 73 countries, holds annual training conferences in a different worldwide location each year, and embraces diversity and inclusion, continuing the traditions established by the founders.
- International Court of Justice This is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It was established in June 1945. The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.
- International Criminal Police Organization The International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as INTERPOL is an international organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control. Headquartered in Lyon, it has seven regional bureaux worldwide and a National Central Bureau in all 194 member states, making it the world's largest police organization.
- Kane County Sheriff's Office The Sheriff, the chief principal law enforcement officer of the County, is the only full-time elected County law enforcement official provided for by the Illinois Constitution.
- Lake County Sheriff The Lake County Sheriff's Office serves as the largest law enforcement agency in the county with many key and diverse roles; Access information about their services, the jail, and crime prevention.
- National Asian Peace Officers Association (NAPOA) The National Asian Peace Officers Association (NAPOA) is the national association that serves as the voice of over 3,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) law enforcement officers and special agents in 22 local chapters across the country.
- National Black Police Association The objective of the National Black police Association (NBPA) is to promote good race relations and equality of opportunity within the police services of the United Kingdom and the wider community.
- Native American Law Enforcement Association The NNALEA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 in Washington, D.C. and incorporated under the state of Delaware. The mission of the NNALEA is to promote and foster mutual cooperation between American Indian Law Enforcement Officers/Agents/Personnel, their agencies, tribes, private industry and public.
- Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) is a 100% Native American operated non-profit corporation organized to design and deliver education, research, training, and technical assistance programs which promote the enhancement of justice in Indian country and the health, well-being, and culture of Native peoples.
- United Nations - Office on Drugs and Crime The agency's focus is the trafficking in and abuse of illicit drugs, crime prevention and criminal justice, international terrorism, and political corruption. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group.
- US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ATF's responsibilities include the investigation and prevention of federal offenses involving the unlawful use, manufacture, and possession of firearms and explosives; acts of arson and bombings; and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products. The ATF also regulates, via licensing, the sale, possession, and transportation of firearms, ammunition, and explosives in interstate commerce.
