Getting Access to the Library

All Loyola Alumni have access to the libraries.  They can borrow books, access the facilities, and get guest access to computers.  As of 2016, Alumni will also be able to access the Wi-Fi on Loyola's campus!  In order to access the library, alumni must obtain an Alumni Card from the Campus Card Office.  Alumni will not be admitted without an alumni card.

For information on obtaining an alumni card, click here.

Services available include:

  • Use materials and services at the university's Cudahy, Lewis, and Health Science library branches.
  • Charge up to 100 books.
  • Keep books for 6 weeks with an option to renew for unlimited additional periods (with the exception of the Health Sciences library, where the lending period is 21 days). (You can renew books from the library catalog by logging in with your email address and last name as your default password. Please update your password to something you will remember.)
  • Request books owned by the Loyola Libraries for pickup at the circulation desk of your choice, using the library catalog.
  • Request "in-process" books before they have been shelved.
  • Request scans of articles from the Loyola Libraries (subject to limitations in peak periods).
  • View videos from the collections within the libraries.
  • Access selected web resources with a guest computer login. (Please note that due to contractual agreements, we cannot provide access to these resources from off-campus for Alumni.)

Access to the Law Library (located on the 3rd floor of the Corboy Law Center) is restricted to law alumni only. Access and borrowing information can be found online here.

Alumni FAQ

Q: Can I use the Library Databases off campus as an alumni?

A: Unfortunately, no.  Our publishers restrict access to database usage, and alumni are not able to use the databases off campus.  You may come to the Water Tower Campus or Lake Shore Campus.  Check in at the information or circulation desks upon arrival.  Most of our online journals and databases will be available for alumni to use within the library.  There are some restrictions.  To ensure access to the database you need will be available, please contact the subject specialist for that discipline.  You can find a list of all subject specialists here.

Q: Can I make a research appointment with a subject librarian?

A: Yes!  However, some subject specialists might be very busy with student appointments during certain times of the year.  While this service is available to alumni, appointments may not be available during some times of the year.  It is advised to make an appointment, rather than walking in and expecting immediate availability.

Q: Why would I make a research appointment?  How would it help me?

A: As the business librarian, I meet with students and alumni on a regular basis to answer basic and advanced research questions.  Some examples of questions from alumni include:

  • "I'm going on an interview soon - can you help me research this company and their competition?"
  • "I'm a professional - I've been in my field for 13 years.  However, I'm changing industries.  Can you help me research my new industry, especially the specifics related to my role in the company?"
  • "I love doing research - but I've been out of school for 20 years.  Can you show me some best practices so I can pursue this topic of interest on my own?"

Q: Can I bring my own computer and use the Wi-Fi?

A: Yes!  In order to use the Wi-Fi you will need to have access to your Loyola Email account.  For more information regarding Loyola email accounts - click here.  Please note that the Libraries do not have any access to your Loyola account OR the Wi-Fi servers.  This access is strictly maintained through the IT department, and we do not have the ability to troubleshoot Wi-Fi access.

Q: Can I check out equipment from the Digital Media Lab, or reserve a study room?

A: Unfortunately, no.  These services are reserved for currently enrolled students at Loyola.
