Academic Journals

Academic Journals are regularly published periodicals containing the latest in peer-reviewed research studies and scholarly papers. The journals listed below specifically address LGBTQ studies and many focus on the interdisciplinary topics covered by LGBTQ studies at Loyola. Some will allow you to search - by keyword, subject heading, author, etc. - within the journal, but many will require you to digitally browse through the articles in each individual issue.

GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies
Providing a forum for interdisciplinary discussion, GLQ publishes scholarship, criticism, and commentary in areas as diverse as law, science studies, religion, political science, and literary studies.
Studies in gender and sexuality (Online)
Provides new research & studies in gender & sexuality.
Journal of LGBT youth (Online)
This quarterly journal presents peer-reviewed scholarly articles, practitioner-based essays, policy analyses, and revealing narratives from young people. The wide-ranging topics include formal and non-formal education; family; peer culture; the media, arts, and entertainment industry; religious institutions and youth organizations; health care; and the workplace.
Journal of GLBT family studies (Online)
The journal publishes original research, as well as theoretical and review papers on topics exploring the impact of sexual orientation and gender identity on all aspects of family experience – including family structure, relationships, communication, therapy, and functioning.
Queer Cats Journal of LGBTQ Studies
Created by the UCLA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Program, Queer Cats Journal of LGBT Studies is an open-access e-publication publishing peer- and editorial-reviewed interdisciplinary LGBTQ research along with the proceedings of their annual QGrad (queer graduate student) conference.
Theology & sexuality (Online)
This journal presents a theological look at various issues of gender and the sexual life.
Lesbian-gay law notes
A publication of the Lesbian and Gay Law Association of Greater New York, reports on lesbian/gay and AIDS related legal developments. It tracks significant new legislation, reports on new court decisions, administrative rulings, and executive actions, and highlights new publications of interest.
Law & sexuality : a review of lesbian and gay legal issues
Also known as The Tulane Journal of Law & Sexuality, this is a student-edited law review published by Tulane University Law School. It covers issues surrounding the LGBT community. Search for specific topics within the journal using Nexis Uni.
LGBT health.
LGBT Health is the premier peer-reviewed journal dedicated to promoting optimal healthcare for all sexual and gender minority persons worldwide. This Journal aims to advance understanding of the health needs particular to each sexual and gender minority population and to improve delivery of and access to culturally competent healthcare.
Psychology and sexuality.
Publishes quantitative and qualitative psychological research on sexualities. The journal will advance knowledge and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in psychology and allied disciplines.
Journal of gay & lesbian social services (Online)
Provides empirical knowledge and conceptual information related to sexual minorities and their social environment. Filled with innovative ideas and resources for the design, evaluation, and delivery of social services for these populations at all stages of life, the journal is a positive influence on the development of public and social policy, programs and services, and social work practice.
Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling (Online)
The journal publishes manuscripts that report cutting-edge empirical research, best practices, and emerging trends and issues focused on counseling the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual ally, pansexual, or other sexual minority communities at all developmental stages of life.
