Welcome to the General Reference subject guide. The purpose of this guide is to highlight the most useful general reference sources available in Loyola’s collection. Reference sources are valuable for finding topic overviews and background information, and offer credible, accurate alternatives to Wikipedia. Specialized reference sources can be found in relevant subject guides.

- Access ScienceMcGraw-Hill's Encyclopedia (10th ed.) has fully searchable content by more than 5000 researchers, including 36 Nobel Prize winners; and includes up-to-date technology including Flash® animations, image galleries, podcasts, and videos.
- Encyclopedia Britannica OnlineThe online encyclopedia is fully searchable and browsable, with authoritative references. The online version contains articles not found in the print Britannica.
- Gale Virtual Reference LibraryGale Virtual Reference library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Choose 'title list' at the top of the screen to see which sources you are searching.
- Oxford Reference OnlineOver 100 reference titles covering a broad range of subjects: everything from General Reference, Language and Quotations to Science and Medicine, and from Humanities and Social Sciences to Business and Professional.
- Sage e-ReferenceThis e-book collection contains over 60 of Sage's authoritative and award-winning encyclopedias. Browse by either the Readers Guide, Entries, A to Z listing or by Index.
