Oxford Art Online: Global in scope and containing entries on artists from ancient times to the present, the biographical entries here contain extensive references.

American National Biography: Entries on deceased American artists can be found in this resource; updated quarterly, ANB includes biographical entries on individuals significant in United States history from pre-colonial times to the present.

Dictionary of National Biography: With a title confusingly similar to the one listed above, this resource covers people who influenced British history and culture, including artists, architects, and collectors.

Ancestry Library: If you're researching an artist who is not represented in research resources, you may be able to locate vital records and/or an obituary in this database.
