The Interlibrary Loan service (ILL) is free for current Loyola students, faculty, and staff.
Alumni are not eligible for interlibrary loan services but may request photocopies or delivery of items from Loyola’s own collections to the Loyola library of their choice.
Loyola uses the ILLiad system for ILL:
What You Can Request
- Books and book chapters
- Journal articles
- Dissertations and theses
- Conference papers
Processing Times
- Articles: Typically 2-5 business days
- Books: Typically 5-10 business days
- International requests may take longer
- You’ll receive email notifications when items arrive
Pickup and Return
- Pickup: Articles and book chapters are usually delivered as pdfs. Items should be picked up promptly at the Cudahy or Lewis circulation desk in order to make use of the entire loan period. Nursing students and faculty who prefer to collect materials at the Maywood campus should place requests through the Health Sciences Library.
- Return: Must be returned to the same location where you picked them up
- Loan periods: Typically shorter than regular library materials and determined by the lending library
- Renewals: Most ILL items cannot be renewed
- Overdue fines: If any Interlibrary Loan item that you borrow is more than 34 days overdue, we will suspend your borrowing privileges and automatically charge you a $100 replacement fee until you return the item. Any item on your account that receives damage may also result in a $100 replacement fee and suspended borrowing privileges.
Special Services
Distance education faculty teaching exclusively online can request home delivery through ILLiad (select “Cohort” pickup). Some materials like ILL books, reserves, DVDs, Popular Reading items, and available e-books are excluded.
You can also register an ILL proxy to authorize someone else to pick up materials for you.
