Quick Access to Services

Essential Services for Everyone

These services are available to all Loyola faculty, staff, and students. These services form the backbone of our support for research and learning.

Services by User Type

Different users have access to specialized services and expanded privileges based on their role.

Students

  • Undergraduate Students: Borrowing (up to 500 books for 6 weeks each), course reserves (required readings set aside by instructors), research skills development
  • Graduate Students: Extended borrowing (books until end of semester), graduate study spaces (dedicated lounges and carrels for PhD students), specialized research support (subject specialist consultations for thesis work), binding services (professional binding for theses and dissertations)
  • Distance and Online Students: Home delivery (books mailed free to your address, up to 10 per semester), document delivery (scanned articles and book chapters as PDFs), virtual research assistance (online consultations and 24/7 chat support). Limitations: Reserves, reference materials, AV items, and ebooks not available for delivery

Faculty and Staff

  • Faculty: Extended borrowing (up to 500 items for 1 year each), office delivery (contact us for more information), course reserves (place materials on reserve for student access), proxy authorization (allow graduate assistants to charge out materials in your name), reciprocal borrowing (see borrowing policies), classroom support (library instruction sessions and custom research guides)
  • Staff: Borrowing (up to 500 books for 6 weeks each), full research assistance (all librarian services available)

Alumni and Visitors

  • Alumni: Building access (use libraries with Alumni Association card), borrowing (up to 100 items), on-campus computer access (limited electronic resources via guest workstations). Limitations: No off-campus database access or interlibrary loan services.
  • Enhanced options: Friends of the Libraries membership for expanded benefits - Complete alumni guide
  • Community Visitors: Daytime access (Monday-Saturday 8am-5pm Information Commons and Cudahy Library only), no access to Lewis Library or during finals periods, research access (print collections and limited electronic resources on public workstations), special access for researchers needing specific materials (see borrowing policies)

Specialized Services

Access and Usage Policies

Building Access: Loyola community (current ID card required at all times), Alumni/visitors (government photo ID plus appropriate membership cards), entry hours vary by location and user type - complete access policy , finals restrictions (limited or no access for community visitors during exam periods).

Usage Guidelines: Small snacks and covered beverages permitted; no meals, hot food, or outside delivery. Use headphones for computer audio and mobile devices.
