Rome Studies Research

Many subject areas on Italy are well covered in the English language, but not all. Use the Rome Studies Research Guide as a starting point and check other subject guides as well. The city of Rome is part of the curriculum here.

  • Rome Studies Research Guide - Comprehensive research resources for Rome-focused studies, Italian language materials, and cultural research

Research Strategies

Starting Your Research:

  • Begin with Rome Studies topics as your foundation
  • Consult other subject guides for interdisciplinary approaches - topics about Italy often connect to art history, political science, European history, and literature
  • For topics “off the well beaten academic trail,” consider both English-language and Italian-language sources

Research Challenges You Might Face:

  • Specialized topics may require Italian-language sources
  • Local Roman perspectives may differ from international scholarship
  • Primary sources may be available only through local archives or institutions

Getting Research Help

The Rome Center librarian will help you use the research capabilities of Loyola University Chicago Libraries and give tips and assistance for bibliography compilation.

Contact the librarian when you need help navigating Loyola’s databases and resources, you’re struggling to find sources for specialized Italy-related topics, you need guidance on citation formatting and bibliography development, or you want to integrate local Roman resources with Loyola’s digital collections.
