Textbooks & Course Reserves: For Students

Instructions for accessing and managing course reserves, for both students and instructors. This includes textbook requests, submission forms, and policy guidelines. Outlines procedures to ensure timely borrowing and effective use of reserved materials.

Course reserves are materials set aside for a class. These might include textbooks, articles, or other required readings that you can borrow for short periods or access electronically.

Finding Your Course Materials

Search for Reserve Materials

  1. Go to the Course Reserves Search in the library's online catalog
  2. Search for materials by title, author, or your instructor's name
  3. Click on the title(s) for the material(s) you want to access

Get Your Materials

  • Print materials: Look for a green "Available" or gray "Unavailable" to find the call number and library. Write down the call number and location, then bring this information to the circulation desk at the appropriate library.
  • Electronic materials: Click "Online Access," "Full Text Online," or "View It" to see all options. Use your Loyola username and password if prompted to log in.

Some electronic materials may be available through Sakai instead of the library catalog.

Borrowing Policies & Fines

4 hours In-library use only $1.00 per hour
3 days Can leave the library $1.00 per day

Your instructor chooses which loan period applies to each item. Library-owned DVDs automatically have 4-hour loan periods.
