Graduate Reference Assistant - Reference Training/Guide

This online training guide will help graduate reference assistants become more familiar with what to do when working at reference service desks.

Overview

The University Libraries are comprised of five libraries and two archives spread across three Chicagoland campuses, plus the Rome Center. Researchers from any one of these locations may use the chat service and they will not know where you are when they ask their questions. It is a best practice to ask a researcher to specify which library they are using as early in the conversation as possible. This is especially important if they are reporting noise in the library or asking about the location of something.

Campus Locations

Lake Shore Campus (Rogers Park)

  • Cudahy Library has a lower level and floors 1 through 3.  The University Archives is on the 2nd floor.
  • The Information Commons has floors 1 through 4.
  • The Women and Leadership Archives occupies the 3rd floor of Piper Hall.

Water Tower Campus (Chicago Downtown)

  • Lewis Library is in a high-rise building called Corboy Law Center and occupies floors 6, 8 and 9.  That's right!  The 7th floor is NOT part of the library.
  • The Law Library is also in Corboy Law Center and occupies floors 3 through 5.

Health Sciences Campus (Maywood, IL)

  • The Health Sciences Library is located on the 1st floor of the Niehoff School of Nursing

Rome Campus (Rome, Italy)

  • The Rome Library is located in the John Felice Rome Center
